We are proud to share that our Charlotte Chapter was a recipient of Surfrider’s 2024 Coastal Champion Award. Announced at Surfrider’s 40th Anniversary Summit, this award celebrates Surfrider chapters and clubs across the country who are doing extraordinary work to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches.
Although Charlotte is a few hours from the coast, our efforts here still make a significant impact. Our Chapter was specifically recognized for our Ocean Friendly Restaurants (OFR) program, which highlights restaurants committed to eliminating wasteful single-use plastics. This program offers a simple and straightforward framework to help these businesses make sustainable choices.
With great partners like The Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters and The Workman’s Friend, we’re demonstrating how sustainable practices in our city contribute to protecting our local waterways and, ultimately, our oceans. By supporting businesses that reduce plastic waste, we’re building a network of eco-conscious restaurants and empowering our community to make choices that foster a healthier environment for all.
