Protect Urban Nature in Charlotte

Protect Urban Nature in Charlotte

Surfrider, along with a coalition of organizations, goal is to include an exemption in Charlotte’s Overgrown Vegetation Ordinance for wildlife habitat, pollinator gardens, or otherwise "naturalistic" landscapes that promote ecological function.

The City of Charlotte currently has an Overgrown Vegetation Ordinance that discourages home owners and business owners from having natural, wild landscapes. This can contribute to diminished wildlife and pollinator habitat, increase in flooding and poor water quality.

Through a coalition of organizations led by the NC Wildlife Federation, we aim to include an exemption in Charlotte’s Overgrown Vegetation Ordinance for wildlife habitat, pollinator gardens, or otherwise "naturalistic" landscapes that promote ecological function.
